How To Backup and Restore Windows Registry

Registry in windows is a database which stores all the configuration and option details in the Windows operating system. All the applications and softwares which has an option to add registry entries will be available in the Windows Registry. Applications, kernel, device drivers, services, SAM, user interface are using the Windows registry. You can also disable drivers and make changes software settings via Windows Registry. But be careful while editing the windows registry, because if you change some other values, it will affect your softwares/drivers. So whenever you are going to edit or make changes in windows registry, just backup the registry and make the changes. It will be helpful to restore the registry backup if you did anything wrong. In that case, you want to know how to take backup of Windows Registry and you have to know how to restore the backup? How To Steps To Backup Windows Registry:

1. Open Run Window [Press Windows Key + R] and type “regedit” [without quotes] and hit enter.
2. Now the Windows Registry will open.
3. To take backup, navigate to File –> Export
4. Now choose the path to save the backup file, specify the name and click on “Save” button.
Also you can have options to select particular branch to backup, choose based on your need.
5. Now the file will be saved in the choosed path with an extension (.reg)

How To Steps To Restore Windows Registry:
1. Open Run Window [Press Windows Key + R] and type “regedit” [without quotes] and hit enter.
2. Now the Windows Registry will open.
3. To take backup, navigate to File –> Import
5. Choose the backup file (.reg) saved in your PC and click “open
6. This will import the registry backup.
