Hi Guys, My next tutorial on Android. Android is an popular mobile operating system, which is based on Linux Kernel. It was basically designed for touch screen devices like smartphones, tablets, etc., Android is an open source project and you can download the source code of android, also you can create custom variants of the Android software stack, port devices, etc., If you’re one of the android user and want to create your own android app. Google makes it simple, you can download the SDK[software development kit] of android from its developer website and start making your own android applications as you like. What is Android SDK?
Android SDK is a software development kit which provides API libraries and necessary developer tools to make, test and debug apps for Android. With Android SDK you can develop any basic app to multi functionality apps. You can also test the apps with Emulators in your PC itself.

What SDK package i can choose?
In Android Developers page you can get various types of SDK packages for various platforms. But Google recommends a Bundle package for the beginners and i too recommend this. Because this bundle package includes all the neccesary tools because if you’re not using the bundle package, you need to download and configure every plugin/softwares separately, this needs a bit of experience. Hence choose Bundle package.

Benefits of Choosing Bundle Package:
The main advantage is you no need to install any applications, you can simply use the application like a portable software. Eclipse software is configured with Android ADT plugin and many more.

SDK Package Available For?
Android SDK Bundle package available for various operating system platforms. Such as Windows, Linux and Mac OS.

System Requirements for SDK:

For Windows :

  • Windows XP (32-bit), Vista (32- or 64-bit), Windows 7 (32- or 64-bit) or Windows 8/8.1 (32- or 64-bit)

For Mac OS:

  • Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later (x86 only)

For Linux:

  • Linux (tested on Ubuntu Linux, Lucid Lynx)
  • GNU C Library (glibc) 2.7 or later is required.
  • On Ubuntu Linux, version 8.04 or later is required.
  • 64-bit distributions must be capable of running 32-bit applications.

What the Bundle package includes?
The Bundle package includes the following tools.

  • Eclipse + ADT plugin -Eclipse Softtware with built-in ADT plugin for Android.
  • Android SDK Tools
  • Android Platform-tools
  • The latest Android platform -It has the latest android platform say for example Android 4.4 Kitkat
  • The latest Android system image for the emulator -Built In Android Emulator to preview your android app.

How to Download the SDK Bundle Package?
Navigate to the Android Developer Webpage and Start downloading the ADT Bundle package for your operating system platform. Bundle package always comes in a .zip format.

Whats Next after Download?
If you have downloaded the Android SDK Bundle package, then extract the .zip file to a folder. Once you extracted you will have two folders(eclipse, sdk) and one file(SDK manager).
Where Eclipse contains the built in ADT plugin for Android and the sdk folder contains the necessary tools, API, library to build Android apps.

Get Started:
Navigate to the eclipse folder and double-click on the “eclipse.exe” to open the app. It will launch the “Android Developer Tools” which is nothing but an eclipse app which is specially configured for android. That’s all. Now you are ready to make your first android app.
