Google Fit is a health tracking platform, which is announced in Google I/O 2014 developers conference. This is a platform for developers to build fitness apps easily. Google Fit developed by Google Inc. and it is a set of APIs for apps and devices manufactures to store data from the fitness sensors on Android devices, wearables, heart rate monitors, etc., By using this app along with the user’s permission, you can get access to the user’s fitness history, which makes developers to give more interesting features in their app like personalized coaching, better insights, fitness recommendations and more. With this platform, users health status can be recorded and it motivate the users to do more exercise and take care of their health. Users will be able to choose who their fitness data is shared and they can be able to delete the information anytime.

The Google Fit Developer Preview lets you develop and test fitness apps, but you won’t be able to publish these apps on Google Play. Once Google Fit was announced officially to all, then you will be able to upload your fit apps to Google Play Store.

Before the official launch of Fit SDK, Google has released the developers preview SDK. You can now download the preview SDK and start developing your fitness app.
Google Fit API’s:
There are 3 types of API’s were available for Google Fit namely Sensors API, Recording API and History API.
Sensors API : This API provides high-level access to sensors from the device and wearables. This API app can communicate with the device sensors and starts collecting the data.
Recording API : This API allows apps to register for battery-efficient, cloud-synced background collection of fitness data.
History API : This API allows operations on the data like read, insert and delete. Once the activity completes this AP search for the locations during the run and show a map.
How To get Fit Developer Preview:
To get started with Fit developer preview, a special version of Android L with Fit support was made available for devices Nexus 5 and 7. Download the system image for your device and download the Google Fit Preview client library through Android SDK.
Note : You need JDK 7 to build Android apps with Google Fit.
