Huawei under the Honor brand has launched their new smartphone in India – Honor 5c on 22 Jun, in Delhi. After the success of the Honor series like Honor Holly 2 plus, Honor 5x, the company has launched this smartphone. Honor sub-brand from Huawei made a strong presence all over the world. Within few years, the honor series smartphones got a huge response in India as well. The main feature of Honor 5c is that it comes with the company’s own processor Kirin 650 Octa -Core Processor. The phone comes in a budget price.

I have been using the device for a while now and here is the detailed review about Huawei Honor 5c.

Honor 5c Review

Design:

Honor 5c comes with a full metal finish design with black front in a curved finish. The phone is designed with metal and plastic. The design looks premium and more compact. It has 5.2 inches IPS Display. There is no official statement about the Gorilla Glass 3 Protection on Honor 5c, but it comes with the Honor’s proprietary screen protection. The dimension of the phone is 147.1 x 73.8 x 8.3 mm. The phone is easy to carry and hold due its size.

On the top, we have 3.5 mm audio jack and a small microphone. On the right side of the phone, we have volume buttons and power button. Dual Hybrid SIM slot is available on the left side. Bottom we have speaker grill present on both sides, but actually, the speaker is present only on the right side. Apart from that, we have Micro-USB port for charging and data sync at the bottom. There are no physical navigation buttons, instead of which you have the on-screen navigation buttons. Above the screen, we have 8 MP camera, notification light, earphone, and sensor. Below the screen we have honor branding logo. 13 MP camera, LED Lash and the fingerprint scanner is placed on the back side of the phone.

Color and Weight:

Honor 5c comes in 3 different colors. Gold, Silver and Grey. The weight of the phone is 156 grams which are light and easy to hold for hours.

Hardware and Performance:

As I said, the main feature of the phone is that it comes with the company’s own Hisilicon Kirin 650 octa-core processor. In which four are clocked at 2GHz and the rest are clocked at 1.7GHz. Kirin 650 is a 16 nm FinFET processor, which performs better when compared to the previous 28 nm chipsets. The company claims that gaming performance was improved by 100% and 40% decrease in power consumption. 16 nm chipset on a budget handset is the main aspect of this phone. The phone is bundled with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM. 2 GB RAM is kind of disappointing, but the phone works well and there is no lag while multitasking. Honor 5c has 16 GB internal memory, in which 10.41 GB is available for the user. Out of which 9.8 GB approx. is available for use during the first boot. You can expand up to 256 GB with micro SD card. There is no separate microSD slot available, but you can use the second SIM slot to insert the microSD card.

Software, UI & Navigation:

Honor 5c runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with its own custom skin EUI 4.1. There are few improvements in the newer version and it looks more stable. A lot of bug fixes and few new features like scrolling screenshots, screen recording and more has been added. You can create a phone tutorial or record gameplay using the screen recording feature. You can customize as per your needs. Other features are same as the previous version.

The phone doesn’t come with any physical navigation buttons, instead of which it has the on-screen navigation button, which can be customized from the available options.

Camera:

Honor 5c comes with 13 MP rear camera with F2.0 aperture and 78 degrees wide-angle 5-element (5P) macro lens for clarity in every shot. The camera works really well and it is one of the best camera bundled smartphones in this price range. The camera has the auto mode and pro mode with a lot of features like an SLR . The camera software has a lot of predefined features like pro-mode, pro-video, beauty mode, HDR, panorama, Food mode, Time-Lapse, slow-motion, document scan, etc., You can also add an audio note and watermark to the photos while capturing.

The front camera is 8MP with BSI sensor, F2.0 aperture, and 77-degree wide-angle lens. It comes with 10 different beauty modes to make the selfies better. The camera is bundled with SmartImage 3.0 image processor which gives more filters and shooting modes.

FingerPrint:

Honor 5c comes with Fingerprint identification 2.0. The Replay Protected Memory Block (RPMB) technology encrypts and stores fingerprint data in a separate secure storage area and ensures that fingerprint data cannot be accessed, even if the phone is rooted. The sensors are so good and real quick. You can setup FingerPrint lock with few seconds, you can enroll your fingerprint by placing it in different positions, at least 6 positions. You can do various functions with the FingerPrint sensors like take photo, answer call, stop alarm and slide gestures to show notification panel, browse photos, etc.,

Battery and Charging:

Honor 5c comes with a non-removable Li-Polymer 3000 mAh battery. The company claims that there is a decrease of 40% power consumption due to its new Kirin 650 processor. On average usage, the battery stands for 1 day which is really good for a 3000 mAh battery. The phone is bundled with Huawei’s SmartPower 3.0 power-saving technology. Sadly it doesn’t support fast charging.
