Asus 6Z Review

Asus plays a vital role in the smartphone industry and their Zenfone series took the company to the next level. Last year, Asus launched their Zenfone 5 series with competitive pricing and specification which received a good response. Likewise, this year Asus has launched their 6 series flagship smartphones. This time it’s not the Zenfone 6Z, its Asus 6Z. Zenfone branding was stopped a few days before the launch of the 6 series in India due to a legal dispute with Zen Mobiles in India.

Asus 6Z has its unique design with the flip camera model and it is one of the best implementation of a motorized camera in recent days. I got a chance to use the Asus 6Z few days and here is my review.

Asus 6Z Design, Specifications:

The company has done a fantastic job in terms of the design of the smartphone. With the flip camera design, Asus made a 6.4-inch screen. On the front, we have the 6.4 inches Full HD+ (2340×1080) IPS display with 92% screen-to-body ratio. The screen comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 for best screen protection. The Capacitive touch panel is capable of 10 points multi-touch and supports glove touch. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform with 64-bit Octa-core Processor and Adreno 640 GPU. The weight of the phone is 190 grams which not bulky.

We have the flip camera design with a dual-camera setup. Sony flagship IMX586 48MP image sensor and 12 MP camera has been placed with dual-LED flash.

Towards the right side, we have the dedicated smart key for Google Assistant or it also be customized. We have the Volume up/down and power button. Bottom we have the speaker, USB type C charging port, 3.5 mm audio jack port. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the backside below the camera. Apart from that, we have the ASUS branding below the fingerprint sensor.

Sensors present in this smartphone are Rear fingerprint sensor (supports 5 fingerprints), Face recognition, Accelerator sensor, E-Compass sensor, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, Gyro sensor (supports ARCore), Laser autofocus sensor, Hall sensor.

The phone is equipped with 5000 mAh battery which also supports quick charge 4.0. Triple SIM Slot with 2 for Dual SIM dual standby (4G VoLTE + 4G VoLTE) & one microSD card. It supports up to 2TB. Coming to the wireless technology it has WLAN, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi Direct and NFC.

The phone is available in 3 variants in India. The variants with 6GB of RAM with 64GB or 128GB of storage, or 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage.

Inside the Asus 6Z box package we have

  • Type-C USB cable
  • Ejector pin (SIM tray needle)
  • USB power adapter (18W)

Asus 6Z Performance and Usage:

I have got the 8 GB variant for the review and the phone does its job well for the specifications. The display is huge and full on the front, thanks to the flip camera design which is not taking any space from the screen on the front side. The overall sound experience is really not up to the level, but decent enough for watching contents. I have tested the latest games like PUBG, Asphalt 9 and more games on the device, the device performs well and there is no lag during the gaming. The Asus 6Z supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 and comes with an 18W power adapter. It charged up from zero to 11 per cent in 10 minutes and 70 per cent in an hour. With 5000 mAh no more worry about the battery drain. In my usage with WIFI and data always on and normal usage the battery was lasted up to 1.5 days.

There is a dual-camera setup on the device and it has a primary 48-megapixel camera with Sony IMX586 sensor and the secondary camera has a 13-megapixel sensor. It also has a dual-LED flash, laser autofocus, and three-axis electronic image stabilisation.

Rear camera modes: Auto (with HDR+), HDR+ Enhanced, Portrait, Panorama (Motorized / Manual), Super Night, Pro (RAW file support / up to 32 seconds long exposure), AI Scene Detection, 8 various filters

Front camera modes: Auto (with HDR+), HDR+ Enhanced, Portrait, Super Night, Pro (RAW file support / up to 32 seconds long exposure), 8 various filters

It supports 4K video recording at 30/60 fps with EIS on the main camera sensor. Apart from the Motion Tracking Video, Time Lapse, Slow motion video is supported on the device.

The phone comes with Zen UI, which looks similar to the stock Android. In addition, ASUS has added many customization options to make the UI more attractive and user-friendly. HD streaming works out of the box on apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime.

  • Performance
  • Full-Screen design
  • Flip Camera Module
  • Battery
  • Triple SIM Slot (Dedicated slot for microSD)
