Material design was introduced by Google during the year 2014. After the official announcement from Google, most of the android app developers started optimizing their apps with material design. Material design was implemented in various Google product apps like Gmail, YouTube, Drive, Docs, etc., Apart from android applications some of the web applications of Google also optimized with the material design concept. There is a dedicated website launched by Google called Google Design which helps the developers to learn more about the design concepts made at Google. This website has the resources related to material design and more, where the developers can make their products on android, iOS and web amazing with the help of design resources provided by Google.
What is Material Design?
Material Design is a design language developed by Google. Expanding upon the “card” motifs that debuted in Google Now, Material Design makes more liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive animations and transitions, padding, and depth effects such as lighting and shadows.

Google recently announced Icons 2.2 which has over 933 icons. The icon library includes icons on various categories which includes all the android system icons, reactions/smileys and Google product icons. It’s free to use the material icons from Google on our projects on android as well as the web. You can download material icons in different sizes and two different formats [PNG and SVG]. In addition to this, you can also embed the icon on the web using the instructions provided by Google.
